 Who is Eligible to Study at the Universities of the Russian Federation?

Any foreign citizen who has a Certificate of Complete Secondary Education (and any other additional documents for entering Post Graduate courses); who is of a good health; who is able to cover tuition fees (approximately 1800-3000 USD per year), living costs (approximately 300-600 USD per year), health and life insurance fees (approximately 105-200 USD per year), food expenses (approximately 1200-1500 USD per year) has a right to study at Russian State Universities. Thus, average expenditures for staying and studying in Russia will be approximately 3500-5000 USD per year, including all expenses. The fees may be 10-50 % higher depending on the specialty, university and city.



The academic year at the university consists of two semesters:

- 1st semester from September, 1st till January, 25th
- 2nd semester from February, 9th till June, 30th

At the end of each semester (in January and June), students get academic credits and undertake exams in the subjects they have studied.

The duration of applications acceptance
The period of the applications acceptance at Russian Universities is from April, 15 till October, 1 of the current year.
Along with application the students should present their education documents.

The period of the foreign students’ admission to the degree course starts on September, 1st and ends on October,  1st.
Nevertheless, we recommend you to come to Russia for studying in the beginning of September.
Learn Russian language
:: Intensive Group Course comprises 25 lessons per week in groups with maximum ten participants. The morning lessons (20) are taken together with the students, which have booked our Standard Group Course. The afternoon supplement (5 lessons on two days – usually Tuesday and Thursday) will be offered in three different levels:
  • A1 - Beginner
  • A1+/A2 – Elementary
  • B1 – Intermediate
  • B2 – Upper-intermediate








The content of this afternoon supplement focuses on subjects of general interest like Business and Economy, Russian Mass Media Today; Culture, History and Literature.

:: Students must study at the preparatory faculty (foundation course) when they first come to Russia. During 7-10 months students study Russian, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Mathematics and other core subjects, which they will need during their studies at the University.

The period of admission for education at the preparatory faculty starts on September , 1st and ends on December , 1st.
The studies start as soon as the groups are formed upon students’ arrival (7-10 persons in a group). Groups formed at the end of the admission period have a special intensive program. Classes usually finish by June, 25, for intensive program - by July, 24. The duration of studying at the preparatory faculty is for one academic year. The programme of the preparatory faculty is unified and is not divided into semesters.
For postgraduate students (Internship-1 year, Post Graduate course -2 years, PhD program-3 years) the admission period is from September, 1 till December, 1.


Preparation and testing centre for the TRKI state exam (Test of Russian as a Foreign Language). The exam measures students' linguistic ability for university studies in Russian.
The TRKI is recognized by the Russian Federal Ministry of Education. A TRKI exam can be taken every week of the year. Exam costs are between EUR 47 and EUR 75 and should be paid to school.

Currently the Russian testing system for speakers of Russian as a foreign language consists of beginner and elementary levels as well as four levels of competency in Russian as a Foreign Language and corresponding tests. The most common are:
  1. Elementary Level TBU: certifies that the applicant has acquired basic communicative skills in a number of daily situations. With no Russian skills to start with, it takes on average a 16 week group course and one TRKI exam module to pass this exam. Exam fee: € 47.

  2. TRKI-1: certifies that the applicant has reached Intermediate Level of communicative skills on a variety of social, cultural and professional topics. TRKI-1 allows enrolling in a Russian University. With no Russian skills to start with, it takes on average a 24 week group course and one, maybe two TRKI exam modules to pass this exam. Exam fee: € 55.
     3.  TRKI-2: certifies a relatively high level (upper Intermediate) of communicative            competency in all communicative contexts. The certificate involved is required            for obtaining Bachelor's and Master's degrees on graduation from Russian            higher educational institutions. It takes 400 lessons or 20 weeks in a group            course to pass from TRKI-1 to TRKI-2. One or two TRKI exam modules are            required to pass this exam. Exam fee: € 65.
